About Adora Du

Hi, I’m Adora!

My name is Adora (she/her pronouns) and I am an associate mental health counselor and the owner of Spring Day Therapy. I am also a current fellow in the Seattle Training in Adult, Adolescent, and Relationship (STAAR) DBT Program, where I receive ongoing supervision and training from Drs. Jared Michonski and Erin Miga.

My career in mental health started when I began working in community mental health after receiving my bachelor’s degree. Since then, I have fallen in love with the therapy world and am honored to be a part of your mental health journey. My previous clinical training spans various levels of care and diagnoses, including experience in conducting individual and group therapy with children, adolescents, adults, and caregivers. I have worked in outpatient clinics and more intensive levels of care (intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential programs).

My clinical work is further informed by my past research involvement at the University of Washington, where I supported numerous federally funded projects in school-based autism research. I am currently still involved in a research study on redesigning DBT for autistic young adults.

Outside the therapy room, I am an active Asian mental health advocate. I direct FAUNA Mental Health Foundation, a 501(c)3 recognized non-profit organization (www.fauna-npo.org) to provide free, culturally responsive mental health resources for the AANHPI community.

About Spring Day Therapy

The Story Behind the Brand

There are a few layers behind why I named my practice “Spring Day Therapy”. When I first decided to start my own private practice, I spent a lot of time trying to think of a name that was catchy, relatable, and most importantly meaningful.

I started graduate school in the springtime, and graduated in the spring 4 years later. I also opened up my practice in the spring! It seems like spring (as much as I complain about the allergies every year) has always brought me new opportunities in life.

Spring also symbolizes new beginnings, warmth, and hopefulness, which is what I hope your therapy journey with me can be for you. At the same time, spring (especially in Seattle!) is an unpredictable time - there are moments of sunshine and hints of summer, but there are also times of rain and remnants of winter. It is a season that demands mindfulness, flexibility, and intentionality in order for us to embrace each day as it comes.

Finally - and the cherry on top! - the song Spring Day by BTS was a song I listened to a lot when I was struggling in my own mental health journey. The lyrics brought me a lot of comfort during times of challenge, pain, and uncertainty:

Past the edge of this winter's cold

추운 겨울 끝을 지나

Until the spring day comes again

다시 봄날이 올 때까지

Until the flowers bloom again

꽃 피울 때까지

Please stay there a little longer, stay there

그곳에 좀 더 머물러줘, 머물러줘

I hope that in our time together you will discover the meaning behind your own Spring Day.
